If you have areas of excess fat on your body that really bother you, you may have considered liposuction. However, there are some issues surrounding liposuction that you may not be aware of, as well as some incredible alternative solutions that you may consider instead.

Did You Know Liposuction Can INCREASE the Appearance of Cellulite?

That’s right, when you remove fat through liposuction it can actually make existing cellulite more prominent. To understand why this occurs you should have an understanding of what Cellulite actually is.

The fat underneath our skin is enclosed in little compartments wrapped up by a thin film of connective tissue (made of collagen, elastin and other proteins). Cellulite is actually fat deposits that are trapped within this connective tissue. These fat deposits can become enlarged from exposure to waste products that haven’t been removed from the body (like fats, retained fluids, and toxins). As these fat pockets enlarge with excess fat and fluids, they expand and push the skin surface upwards, causing it to become lumpy. This is what we call cellulite.

Women are more likely to have cellulite since the bands of connective tissue under our skin are vertical and thinner. The bands in Men’s skin run diagonally and are thicker, making them less likely to pucker the skin above. As you age and your skin becomes thinner, cellulite can become more pronounced.

When you undergo liposuction you are actually causing more damage to the connective tissues. Additionally, by its very nature, liposuction almost always causes additional contour irregularities. It’s nearly impossible to suction a smooth surface smoother, but it’s easy for a smooth surface to become lumpy with liposuction. For someone who already has irregularities from cellulite, the risk of making things more irregular with liposuction is high!

Other Risk and Recovery Time

All surgical procedures comes with risks, and liposuction is no exception, with risks including infection, hematoma, scars, perforations, nerve damage, and in rare cases organ damage. Liposuction also requires a significant amount of recovery time. On average it can take 4 – 6 weeks to return to normal activity and another 4 – 6 months to see the final results.

Coolsculpting and Vanquish: Better Options?

Coolsculpting is a non-surgical, non-invasive procedure scientifically proven to reduce unwanted body fat. The procedure uses a process called Cryolipolysis, which is based on research out of Harvard University. This process literally freezes fat cells so that they go through apoptosis (natural cell death) and the lymphatics system carries them out of the body…for good. Unlike liposuction, Coolsculpting has no downtime, no risks, and will not increase the appearance of cellulite!

Vanquish ME is FDA-cleared for circumferential reduction of the waist, and destroys resistant fat cells to achieve a beautifully contoured abdomen and trim waistline. Vanquish is a painless, non-invasive treatment that precisely targets heat into the fat layer while protecting surrounding skin. Vanquish heats the fat cells to 43-45 degrees Celsius, which is required temperature to initiate apoptosis. Vanquish ME creates a high-frequency energy field and employs a panel array to treat the entire core in one application.
